Carrier Tunneling from Charge Transfer States in Organic Photovoltaic Cells

چکیده

Charge transfer (CT) states play a key role in the functioning of organic solar cells; however, understanding mechanism by which CT dissociate efficiently into free charges remain conceptual challenge. Here, electric field dependent dynamics charge generation planar cyanine/fullerene photovoltaic cells is probed over wide temperature range using time-resolved Stark effect experiments, transient absorption, and photocurrent measurements. Results indicate that dissociation thermalized rate-limiting step for all temperatures. The rate strongly depends on field, but independent. results also suggest yield generated Model electrostatic calculations illustrate specific orientations cyanine crystal relative to C60 create repulsive potential an electron near interface largely due quadrupole moment unit cell. In combination with electron-hole coulomb attraction field-induced barrier lowering, high-energy forms narrow width few nanometers. It proposed separation occurs via field-dependent tunneling through barrier, support thus far overlooked pathway state carrier tunneling.

Ultrafast optical probing of the electric field by means of Stark effect in planar heterojunction cyanine dye/fullerene organic solar cells enables one to directly monitor the dynamics of free electron formation during the dissociation of interfacial charge transfer (CT) states. Motions of electrons and holes is scrutinized separately by selectively probing the Stark shift dynamics at selected ...

Charge Carrier Recombination in Bulk Heterojunction Organic Solar Cells

Photovoltaic phenomenon was first observed by E. Becquerel (Becquerel) in 1839. He observed the electric current-lit silver electrode, immersed in the electrolyte. In 1894, taking advantage of the observed photoconductivity phenomenon in amorphous selenium the semiconductor solar cell was developed. The very first silicon p-n junction solar cell was made in 1954, energy conversion efficiency of...

Charge carrier thermalization in organic diodes

Charge carrier mobilities of organic semiconductors are often characterized using steady-state measurements of space charge limited diodes. These measurements assume that charge carriers are in a steady-state equilibrium. In reality, however, energetically hot carriers are introduces by photo-excitation and injection into highly energetic sites from the electrodes. These carriers perturb the eq...
